In addition to the provided graphical schematic, here is a parts list, advice and maybe some indications on where to get better/cheaper parts for your effect. ********************************************************** Project: LPB1 (Linear power booster) Build Difficulty: Begginer This is a very easy to build booster effect, in its stompbox version (some people have built it as a "preamp" inside their guitar's control cavity), that gives that "extra" kick to your tone when needed. This is a perfect project for the beggining builder as it only uses commonly found parts, and will work well with any kind of component. ********************************************************** PARTS: Resistors: 1 - 830kohms 1 - 10Kohms 1 - 100Kohms 1 - 360 ohms Capacitors 2 - o.15 uF (electrolytic or similar) Transistor 1 - 2n5088 (commonly found) Potentiometer(s) 1 - 100kohm log (i prefer Alpha pots) Other 1 - Hammond 1590BB Alluminium Enclosure 1 - Switchcraft Mono 1/4" Jack 1 - Switchcraft Stereo 1/4" Jack 1 - Carling DPDT Heavy duty Stomp switch 1 - 9v Battery snap (try to get the hard plastic type, the others seem to break off after a few changes). 1 - Perfboard.a small sized one like at small bear's catalog is enough. 1 - Knob (buy according to the shaft width of the potentiometer you bought) ? - Wire. 22AWG, solid core makes for easier soldering, buy colors! 1 - Soldering Iron, 20-50w, try to get a "needle" tip. ? - Solder, rosin core, a small "tube" coil is enough for a box. *********************************************************** Random Tips: The enclosure. Probably the hardest part about building the box, is getting a durable, good looking finish on your enclosure. on Hammond Alluminium enclosures, i proceed as follows: - Sand box with fine 400-800 grit sandpaper until smooth - clean box with acetone throughly - slightly heat box with a hair dryer - spray 4-5 coats of enamel paint (can is fine) - using a toaster oven, at about 100 degrees, bake for half an hour - let cool, and cure for 2 days - spray with several coats of clear coat (rustoleum clear coats do fine). - sand with fine, fine paper, (DONT go all the way through the clear) - buff throughly, for that SHINE! - GOOD LUCK! *********************************************************** Where to buy: All of these items are readily available at SmallBear Electronics. I recommend them for stompbox parts. The service is great, they are very knowledgeable, and the prices are great. www.smallbearelec.com ***********************************************************
